Open Access Day at University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), October 22
The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Library is pleased to announce its plans for an Open Access Day celebration at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). This event is co-sponsored by ECAR, a division of EDUCAUSE, and is scheduled for October 22, 2009.
The afternoon will feature a panel discussion between John Wilbanks, Vice President of Science Commons, and George Strawn, Chief Information Officer of the National Science Foundation. The conversation, to be introduced by Dr. Richard A. Athes, President of UCAR, and moderated by Richard Katz, Director of ECAR, is expected to generate a lively exploration of the nature of science, scholarly publishing and the scientific process in the 21st century. It will be recorded, and will be made available online shortly following the event.
Located in Boulder, Colorado, UCAR promotes partnership in a collaborative community dedicated to understanding the atmosphere and the interconnected processes that make up the Earth system. It is also the governing body that manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), a world-class facility that has conducted research into the atmospheric sciences for nearly 50 years. Together, and in collaboration with ECAR, they are proud to celebrate what next year will be 50 years of Open Access, Open Science, and Open Data at UCAR.
Open Access Day at UCAR is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Jamaica Jones, Special Projects Librarian, at jamaica@ucar.edu or (303) 497-2674. Please also visit the website for OpenSky, future home of UCAR’s institutional repository.
