Open Access Week at The University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa

Howard College Library hosted a successful first OA Week. In an effort to promote OA awareness on campus, presentations explored OA from various angles. Our keynote speaker Dr Ruth Hoskins provided an broad and informative introduction to OA entitled South African University Libraries and Open Access. Other presentations during the course of the week included Pat Liebetrau Open Educational Resources , Dr Dale Peters Open Access to Scientific Data: Why researchers are reluctant to share , and Gail Robinson Durban Medical School Archive. The events were well attended by University staff and students keen to learn more about OA with lunchtime exhibitions, demonstrations and discussions on ResearchSpace, OA Journal Publishing, OA e-Research Tools and OA Resources providing greater awareness and information sharing. We look forward to making this a regular annual event as awareness of OA continues to expand.
