The University of Miami Celebrates International Open Access Week

  • Miami, FL United States (map)

The University of Miami Libraries are proud to be among the worldwide community of institutions celebrating the 2023 International Open Access Week. This year's theme, "Community Over Commercialization," encourages a candid conversation about which approaches to open scholarship prioritize the best interests of the public and the academic community—and which do not. Open access to scholarship and information contributes to creating a more equitable world where knowledge sharing, collaboration, and accessibility to research help to address both local and global concerns. Please join us online for a presentation featuring a panel of experts in research data, analytics, and open scholarship as they discuss how the University Libraries are contributing to the open access community and how you can participate. Topics will include tips for selecting open access publishing venues and avoiding predatory journals, government policies affecting open access, and article processing charges and ORCiD. The presentation will be followed by an audience question and answer session. About International Open Access Week October 23–29, 2023 International Open Access Week is a global, community-driven week of action to open up access to research. The event is celebrated worldwide by individuals, institutions, and organizations working collectively to make "open" the default for research and education. Open access resources can take many forms, including scholarly articles, datasets, multimedia content, and other types of creative works. Providing unrestricted access to these resources is key to the dissemination of knowledge and to the creation of new scholarship.
