Join the University of Derby and the University of Essex as we celebrate Open Access Week 2023!

In this talk, we are joined by Dr. Abeni Wickham, founder and CEO of SciFree, a new search tool for Open Access publishing, with the mission of working towards 100% Open Access and Open Science with/for Universities and researchers. Abeni will discuss how commercialization has almost become synonymous with predatory behaviour, particularly in relation to commercial scholarly publishing in the academy.

Abeni is an experienced scientist and mentor in Material Science/Molecular Physics and Regenerative Medicine and was previously a senior analyst/consultant for Californian-based biotech and skin care companies. Abeni successfully developed new materials for varying cornea, cardiac, skin and nerve regeneration strategies and also has colloidal chemistry experience tailored for the cosmetics industry.
